Zebra Print Chair

Check out Elaine's new chair.  Its so cute and semi divaish.

The chair is solid maple wood. She painted it in a raspberry color and  took off five layers of old fabric and old foam and  then  put a new anti mold foam. The zebra print upholstery fabric is a fun touch.

Trash to Treasured Wedding Gift

I'm so sorry.  I totally missed show off Sundays this week.  I've been packing all weekend and just have the basement left.  After packing comes organizing for Saturdays garage sale.

I thought I'd share this dresser that I did for a friend's wedding exactly a month ago today.  Her then fiance found this baby in the TRASH.  Most of the drawers were broken and the paint was pretty badly stained.  When I heard the news of this rescued "first" dresser I thought that in addition to buying a traditional wedding gift I would fix up the dresser for the bride and groom as a housewarming gift. I have to admit I've never repaired broken drawers before, but I knew I was up to the task.  Plus it was a Broyhill Dresser, which I thought would be worth repairing.

I decided to prime the dresser first before I tackled the mess with the drawers.

dark grey primer on dresserI have to admit I didn't even own clamps. I found these amazing band clamps at Home Depot that wrapped around and adjusted to any size.  I glued the drawers together and wrapped them in these band clamps and let each of them sit for 24 hours.  Then off to primer.

I used a silver metallic spray paint by Valspar and covered the dresser with two coats, then I used wipe on poly to seal.  The bride got some amazing knobs at Hobby Lobby that finished off the look.  I love how it came out.

Ideas Already Spinning Through My Head

I must say that trying to pack boxes, deal with Craigslisters, plan a yard sale, and schedule a move is not easy.  It's even more difficult when you are watching 3 year olds the whole day.  Preschool here we come!!  I'm already starting to think of decorating our new house, but since we haven't found a place yet ideas are just kind of spinning.  I'm definitely searching for something with character.   I'm starting to  think about the twins room.  They will most likey be sharing a room with the price of California housing.  I got a chance to play with Olioboard today for the first time and came up with this little story board.  I'm thinking flea market chic.  Since I have boy/ girl twins I've got to keep it kind of gender neutral.  My daughter has a baby blue quilt with flowers on it and I thought that  pairing it with a cute chandelier will give the room her feminine touch.Any other suggestions for a cute gender neutral 3-year-old twin room?   I'd love suggestions.

Hand Painted Nightstands

Instead of working on projects all weekend.  I've been listing furniture on Craigslist and packing boxes.  Moving is never fun, especially if you are talking a 2200 mile move.  The bad news is that instead of making new things, I'm getting rid of things, which means I won't have any new projects until the end of August.

Luckily, my partner in crime, Elaine has stepped up to the plate.  She's got some pretty awesome projects she's been working on.  For those of you who don't know.  I moved to Cincinnati, OH 2 years ago for hubby's job, but am originally from Pasadena, CA.  We now have the opportunity to go back and Elaine and I can reunite.  So in the next few months you'll see some changes (good ones), some revamping, and a lot more projects from Elaine.

Here are some really cool night stands that she painted in a green and then hand painted the branch design.  Aren't they cool, organic, and fun?

Showoff Sunday's #5

I'm really working hard spreading the word about our showoff party.  I would highly appreciate it if you could help us spread the word.  A quick tweet or facebook post would be great.  I'd love to see lots to lots of projects to help inspire all of us.

Here's a cute buffet from last weeks Showoff party @ making it homeyPainted art deco buffetNow Lets Party!

Welcome to Show off Sundays. This is where you can post Home Decor projects you've been working on this week. You are welcome to post Etsy listing as long as the photos are from a blog post and not just an Etsy URL. I know the things you sell on Etsy or other sites still take creativity and work so I don't mind if you post them. Anything furniture or decorating related is welcome. If you already know the link party drill, feel free to scroll on down and link away! If you’ve never linked up to a link party before, here’s how it works…

1. Scroll down this page until you see the “add your link” button. Click it, and create a super-descriptive name for your link. Something like, “DIY Floral Rug”, or “Hot Pink Dresser”. That’ll make it easier for folks to browse through all the links.

2. Make sure you link directly to the  Project post you’d like to share- not to the main page of your blog

 3. Please grab this button and stick it at the end of your project post on your blog and/or in your links/ parties section. Just copy and paste the code in the box below into the html part of your post, and voila!

4. Last but not least, we love new followers.  To keep up with what we have going on in the ideas world please subscribe to our blog.

Wallpaper Dresser

thRifty thuRsDayS

I've used everything from fabric to aluminum foil to cover flaws in furniture, but this painted wallpaper solution from Sarah at Dumped and Discovered is nifty thrify.

What Sarah proves is there is always a creative solution to fix something.   This piece was nearly free for $5.00, so never walk away from something ultra cheap or free.

Neutralize

wilD caRd wednDayS

First of all, I have to say that you'll have to excuse me for not posting every day for the next month or so.  I'm in the middle of a cross-country move and things are pretty hectic.  In an effort to neutralize our house I've painted colors on the wall that I never thought I would see in my house, but I have to admit I kind of like it.  Instead of selling we are tossing around the idea of renting for a year.  It's a little scary, but if it means I get to go back to California then it is what it is.  Here are pics of the two rooms I neutralized this weekend.  A neutral palette is essential whether you are renting or selling.

Here's the new color

Gobi DesertThe color is Gobi Desert by Behr and the paint primer combination is awesome.  Covering that grey only took two coats with no primer.

Here is my son Niko's room before

Here is what it looks like now

Behr Gobi DesertIt only took one coat to paint this room.  It's kind of sad the fun is gone, but gotta do it to part ways.

I have to admit.  I really like this color and will mark it in my paint fan for future reference.  What are some of you favorite neutral colors?

Custom Dresser Complete

Another busy weekend just flew by.  Got two bedrooms painted and finished one of my custom dresser orders.  This cute little dresser is going to North Carolina for a 2-year-old little girl.  I just love custom orders because when I know a little about who it is going to, I sink a little extra heart into it.

The dresser is an antique, it came from the middle of Kentucky.  I was lucky enough to meet the guy who sold it to me since he works near Cincinnati and was able to deliver it,  When I saw the Craigslist posting I knew it was the one.

and here it is:

I also painted and lined the inside of the drawers with this pretty paper.

I hope little Emma will love it as much as I do.

Showoff Sunday's #4

I can't believe it's Sunday already.  I spent all day yesterday painting my sons room and my old studio to get it ready to sell.  All I can say is that Behr primer plus paint is amazing.   I was able to get dark gray painted to a light taupe in two coats and lime green painted to taupe in one.  I will share pics later this week.

Thank you all who participated in Showoff Sundays last week.  Here are some fun projects:
