Apple Green Petit Buffet

I was in a green mood last week.  I had a piece that had been sitting in my garage for a while and nobody seemed to have any imagination for it so it just sat there for months.  I was in an Appletini mood so I decided to paint it one afternoon.  Since the Appletini Dresser sold, I didn't have any green in my shop.

Here is what I had to work with
I think it is really cute.  It is small enough to be a bed side table and large enough to be a sideboard in a dining room or an entry way table.  I think its a very versatile piece.

Here is what it looks like now.

I just loved how it turned out.  If you want to find out how the Appletini Finish in done click here for the tutorial.

This item is available to purchase in my Etsy shop.

Would love to see what you have been working on...link up to our Furniture Friday party!!

Eloise Style Dresser

I just love doing little girls bedroom furniture.

Most recently I did an "Eloise" style piece for a client.  To be quite honest, it was my first attempt at striping.  Thanks to a little help by the new Scotch Blue tape with Edgelock it worked out quite nicely.

The client wanted a pink and white striped chest for her little girls room just like at the Eloise Store.

She picked out this dresser from my inventory.

I painted the dresser completely in Rustoleum Heirloom white, then waited a few days to make sure the paint was completely dry.  The next step was to start the taping process.  I did not measure because I like the randomness of imperfection. I then painted the dresser with Rustoleum Raspberry.

I carefully pulled off the tape and finished it off with some knobs the client picked up from Van Dykes.

The sides are striped too

and I even finished it off by lining the drawers with a pretty paper.

Mad Men Bedroom- A How To Guide

In this post I wanted to share my ideas on how to get a Mad Men style bedroom, as we've all gone a little crazy for the show and, well, who wouldn't want to recreate a bit of that retro cool in their own home?

The show is currently in its fifth series, sweeping us back to 1966 with its meticulously-designed costumes and, most importantly for me, its sets.

Don and Megan's new apartment hits all the right notes with its clean lines and sophisticated colour scheme; browns and beiges are brought to life by an unexpected touch of wackiness from the brightly coloured cushions and hanging lamp. However, instead of going down this route in the bedroom, you'll achieve the perfect Mad Men look by bringing in the softer side of the sixties.

The bed is the one thing that, if you get it right, will shape your bedroom into a nostalgic paradise that needs only a few simple additions to make it perfect. Go for an ornate bed with a white, swirly-shaped headboard for a dramatic, romantic look. Just imagine his 'n' hers striped pyjamas folded neatly at the foot of one of the French beds (similar ones available here)!

In Don and Megan's bedroom a large, metal, leaf-inspired sculpture is mounted on the wall above the bed. This type of sculpture was popular in homes during the sixties and seventies; most notable was the work of Curtis Jeré who you can read more about here.

By Mary Barker, Mad Men nut.

Disclosure: This post was written by Mary Barker.  I did not get compensated for this post, but since I love French Provincial Furniture and am too a Mad Men nut I thought the content fit my blog....mONICa

Furniture Friday 16 and Features

Hello and Happy Friday!!  How's everyone doing?  It's been hot over here this week and I've already started working on my tan from all the working outside I've been doing. We had some great projects linked up last week like this cabinet by Red Hen Home.

and this awesome Paisley Table by Domestic Imperfection

Decoupaged TV Cabinet

Remember this hutch?

Remember that I turned it into a bar for our home office?

Well the bar is no more.  Ok, to be quite honest the bar has been moved to an undisclosed location.

Problem number one, sharing a desk with my husband just didn't work out for me.  I have a neat desk policy that he could not maintain.  So in its spot went my own desk.

Problem 2, I committed to Vintage Revivals Fearlessly Finding Awesome Challenge to save my living room, which meant that my tv needed a new home.

and unfortunately a much smaller cabinet.

That's where my old bar come into play.  I painted it yellow and decoupaged it in New York style post cards, articles, and such that I found on the internet.

This cabinet makes a 42" tv look like a 60" tv.

Heres a close up of my decoupage

What did I do with the top you might ask?

Well, its now sitting next to my fireplace in a semi new finish ( I added some yellow striped and distressed it a bit), but it still needs to be styled.

More saving my living room to come.

Don't forget to link up to Furniture Friday this week.

Audrey 2

Audrey has a twin. Yes, another lucky lady will getting a Tiffany Blue Dresser. This time she is going to Washington. Audrey 2 wasn't as easy to work on as Audrey 1. Audrey 2 needed to be completely stripped. It wasn't really what I was expecting when I took on this project, but all is well if ends well, right?  Here she is before.

Took me weeks to strip this things, getting into all the crack and crevices was tough and there were several layers of paint on it, some oil based and some latex based.  Let me tell if you are going to strip a dresser use.  Citristrip.  It smells much better than the other ones and is less harmful.  I must say though, it does still burn your skin (learned from experience) so wear gloves.    Here is what she looked once she was completely stripped.

The client also asked for different hardware so new holes had to be drilled

and here she is after

Does she look like the first one?  Well the lighting is different, but I promise its the same color. If you missed the tutorial on how to do this finish you can see it here.
