Big Red Beautiful Beastly Dresser

I recently finished a dresser for a client.  A good quality Thomasville Dresser.  I say big and beastly because this thing must have weighed over 200 pounds.

I say beautiful because the lines of this dresser are just amazing, with great trim work and detail.  I say red because that is exactly what the customer wanted a distressed red.
I used Rustoleum colonial red satin  for this dresser.  It's an amazing color.
Then I went crazy on the distressing.
I have to be quite honest, I wasn't sure if I was going to like the finished product when I was done, but obviously in this case the customer had a better eye than I did because I love it.  I have to admit it is one of my favorite pieces to date.
With this hardware I guess I had imagined something more french shabby chic like a washed blue.  What was I thinking?  The contrast of this farmhouse color and the hardware is awesome.
This is why I absolutely love doing custom pieces, because you never know what you are capable of if you leave it in someone else's hands.

As you can see we're partying all week long. I probably need to go to link party rehab.  Oh well,  grab a martini and join us....Monica

  1. OOOOH - I love it, too, My whole house it going light and neutral except for one room, and it's going to be rich reds. I may need to do a piece like this!

  2. I don't know why I stay away from reds - I love them when someone else does them - and this is by far one of the nicest RED pieces I've seen so far!
