Mid Century Madness

I always feel sorry for those Danish modern dressers from the midcentury that got a little too much love.  It's like they are tossed out as rejects who didn't make it into a million dollar collection.  I mean, I get it, it's all about those mint midcentury show pieces, but what do you do when your show piece didn't win the show down.

Paint it of course!!  In order to keep the integrity of this piece we decided to leave the drawer fronts alone, imperfections and all.  I love the masculinity of this dresser and the clean modern lines.  Unfortunately once again, I didn't snap any before pictures, but I hope you like how it turned out.

I used a fern green color to compliment the walnut tones.

If you look very close you can see where there is imperfection, but that gives it all the more character, and to tell the truth it was in pretty good shape when we got it.

Parisian Nights

How was your weekend?  One of our weekend projects was these Parisian nights side tables, nightstands, end tables, whatever.  The color turned out amazing.  We really didn't have a direction with these pieces to begin with, they  just kind of evolved.  We started with a lagoon blue spray paint, the next layer was a mixed a custom color with glaze.  We used some stain to distress it, then another custom coat.  All in all I think it has  4 different coats of paint, but I think the finished product is amazing.  Here is a shot of what these babies looked like before:

And for once we kept the original hardware as is, because we thought they looked pretty good just the way they were.Etsy handpainted nightstands

Did you have any fun projects this weekend?

Hand Painted Nightstands

Instead of working on projects all weekend.  I've been listing furniture on Craigslist and packing boxes.  Moving is never fun, especially if you are talking a 2200 mile move.  The bad news is that instead of making new things, I'm getting rid of things, which means I won't have any new projects until the end of August.

Luckily, my partner in crime, Elaine has stepped up to the plate.  She's got some pretty awesome projects she's been working on.  For those of you who don't know.  I moved to Cincinnati, OH 2 years ago for hubby's job, but am originally from Pasadena, CA.  We now have the opportunity to go back and Elaine and I can reunite.  So in the next few months you'll see some changes (good ones), some revamping, and a lot more projects from Elaine.

Here are some really cool night stands that she painted in a green and then hand painted the branch design.  Aren't they cool, organic, and fun?

Working Away from the Computer

So my Mac crashed and I'm gonna have to take a couple of days off from blog world. The guy is coming to look at it tomorrow so hopefully I'll be back on board soon. Until then, here are some previews of what I've been working on, coming to you live from my iPhone.

I think it would not only make a great dresser, but a great small dining buffet, entry way table, or nightstand.

Retro Kitchen Redos

The kitchen is the heart of the home.  The smell of fresh-baked cookies, the meat and potatoes, moms apron.  I think when we think of a homey kitchen we picture June Cleaver pulling something just delightful out of the oven.

Nothing else speaks June Cleaver like a retro kitchen.  Retro kitchens are no longer a thing of the past.  The green world has really done something great by encouraging people to save what they can, especially when it comes to remodeling.

Personally I love retro kitchens.  The removal of some cabinet doors to give a more open feel has become very popular.  Dark paint colors and chandeliers have added a punch of personality to some kitchens.  Also, using modern countertops (granite, quartz, marble, stainless steel and wood) have brought these kitchens back to life.

I love the dark blue walls against all the white, and also the touch of modern cabinet hardware.

The openness of the cabinets, and the solid surface countertops along with the glass tile back splash gives this kitchen a modern feel while maintaining its integrity and charm.

Good Home Construction

I absolutely love the hollywood regency style glass cabinet doors and the stainless steel countertops.  The hanging lanterns give this kitchen a whimsical touch.
