Parisian Nights

How was your weekend?  One of our weekend projects was these Parisian nights side tables, nightstands, end tables, whatever.  The color turned out amazing.  We really didn't have a direction with these pieces to begin with, they  just kind of evolved.  We started with a lagoon blue spray paint, the next layer was a mixed a custom color with glaze.  We used some stain to distress it, then another custom coat.  All in all I think it has  4 different coats of paint, but I think the finished product is amazing.  Here is a shot of what these babies looked like before:

And for once we kept the original hardware as is, because we thought they looked pretty good just the way they were.

Before and After- The Imagination Desk

I thought I"d post some quick pics of a desk I just finished.  I thought this desk was really cool and would make a neat table for kids to draw on, or as a wrapping station in a craft room.

It had some gouges, so I did some filling in with wood filler and sanded, primed, painted, and clear coated in gloss.  I think it came out great.  It's a fun piece for any room.

I've named it the Imagination Desk, first of all because it's a drawing table that kids can use their imagination.  Secondly, because there are so many uses for it, you have to use your imagination to find a purpose for it.

Decoupage Table Tops- Feature Friday

A while back I bought a coffee table on clearance at Home Goods. It wasn't in the best of shape to begin with, but it did the trick for a while.  Well, during their 2nd year of life my twins have really beaten it up.  It now needs a make over.  I've thought about painting it, but I thought it would be fun to cover it with fabric instead,  since it's really only the top that is damaged.  I found this great tutorial on how to decoupage table tops at Jennifer Rizzo.com.

First,  she paints the table.

Then she added the fabric with decoupage medium.

A couple of coats of shellac show the finished product.

This project would be fun with some bright or graphic fabric as well.

I may try something like this on my desk as well.
